Job Summary
Mentors junior engineers. Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support. Lead small to medium scale projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Assists with development and implementation of engineering design standards, policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either a Construction project or delivery of operations for an IBX facility.
Responsibilities
Senior Mechanical engineer reports to Cross Functional leader of the sub-region
Position is expected to meet with each Director in the sub-region on a regular basis. These meetings can and should involve the site MFO’s to align work requested and review work being performed for their sites
Senior Mechanical engineer shall solicit mechanical work from site management and help the sites install /modify or add to the mechanical systems, to satisfy Physical Action Items list or site needs to operate the sites in a more efficient or reliable manner
Senior Mechanical engineer should be able to provide a working schedule of activities and project timelines. Prioritize his workload and provide the Director and management with guidance when the work should be outsourced due to size of project and available resources
On outsourced projects Senior Mechanical engineer should work closely with the Contractor and site management to provide professional oversite and review
Budgets shall be planned by the sites and any training or extra budgetary needs shall be conveyed by the Senior Mechanical engineer to site management to allow for proper budgeting
Senior Mechanical engineer shall meet regularly with GOE and its counterparts in meetings set up by GOE that review compliance, best practices, lessons learned as well as company policy review and shared program and code techniques
Energy efficient operation of the cooling systems and supporting sustainability projects across the GEM-N subregion is the main area of responsibility
Other mechanical related maintenances can also be carried out by the Senior Mechanical engineer as needed and manpower supports
Site Mechanical systems – Cooling, Ventilation, water and sewers - Support and Problem Solving
Confirm, coordinate and perform site mechanical systems updates to applicable CRAHs, CRACs, AHUs, chillers and condensers
Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, global operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects
Diagnose and resolve mechanical system failures, malfunction, anomalies, etc
Provide on-call support and provide assistance to site teams for mechanical related items
Implements and makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems
Tests and vets suitability of components for deployments
Understands Electrical topology, Mechanical HVAC operations and the relationships for controls and alarming
Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation
Determines if site incident is to be declared if related to mechanical systems and follows proper procedures. Able to fulfill and complete accurate IIR, as well as provide support documentation for PIRs when needed
Demonstrates high/expert level knowledge of mechanical systems
Configure all required items to provide the site with an active HMI, alarming system and historical trending visibility
Assist with site reporting requirements (i.e. temperature, humidity, power, unit variables, etc.) by providing reports or creating templates for internal team use
Able to provide requirements of panel I/O to the controllers and terminate all needed connections that will allow for the system to function
Sub regional sustainability and mechanical Projects and Management
Leads small to large scale projects, dependent on regional support and department size
Submits change management with supporting documentation for control projects, and other site projects where applicable
Manage mechanical vendor work
Develops SOWs for mechanical system maintenance, replacement projects, efficiency projects, etc. Also, implements these changes based on regional support and department size
Directs and/or supports teams per project, or initiative, such as General Contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc
Support commissioning of internal subregional projects, as well as construction initiative builds
Provides all required documentation for CMRs, as well as create CMRs when applicable
Repairs and Maintenance
Performs Preventative Maintenance work orders and completes all tasks within ticket
Create work order(s) needed to address existing Corrective Maintenance (CM) or Condition Derived (CD) activities
Site Physical Support
Provides site support during Site Physicals that are held by GOE/Global Operations Engineering
Works with site management, Site Engineering and GOE/Global Operations Engineering to develop a plan for physical action item resolution
Implements changes required to eliminate and/or mitigate issues that were declared P1/P2/P3 related to mechanical and/or site related items that involve mechanical systems
Training
Mentors engineers and Site Operations. Provides both formal and informal training sessions
Creates training reference manuals that assist the site with understanding and interpreting existing SOOs, mechanical, trending, etc
Completes assigned tasks through Equinix Learning Exchange and/or Equinix required training courses
Customer Facing
Fulfill ticket requirements in Siebel for customer reporting
Able to provide needed information to create proper cross-connect tickets, network switch installations, server VM creations, power to panels/cabinets, etc
Budgetary
Able to successfully maintain Operations (OPEX) and Capital (CAPEX) budgets within +- 1% quarterly
Able to successfully provide needed materials lists to get the project completed on-time and within budget
Able to provide SOW to all contractors to appropriately budget for needed project fulfillment.
Qualifications
Proven years of experience on mechanical systems operations or design and implementation preferred
Bachelors or Masters degree
Ability to travel within GEM-N region (Finland, Ireland, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland)
